How Do I Select The Correct Stylus

To find the stylus you need, enter either the model number of the turntable, record player or music system, or the stylus number if known, in the quick search box and click on go. If the number appears on our site you will be given a link which will take you to this item. As a further check, if you have the old stylus compare it with the image shown. If the search is unsuccessful, please e-mail us with all the information you have and we will endeavour to identify the stylus required.

How Do I Fit My New Stylus?

There are various types of stylus and in most cases fitting becomes obvious when the stylus and cartridge are adjacent. However, the main methods of fitting are shown below.

Fitting stylus type 1. Holding the stylus carefully between thumb and forefinger, locate the back end under the clip on the underside of the cartridge. The "wings" of the stylus should sit in the slot provided and the arm carrying the stylus tip will rest in the rubber support.

Fitting stylus type 2 Slacken the small fixing screw at the rear underside of the cartridge, insert the forked end of the stylus under the screw and tighten. The arm carrying the stylus tip should rest in the rubber support.

Fitting stylus type 3 Holding the stylus carefully between thumb and forefinger, locate the back end under the clip on the underside of the cartridge. The "flip-over" arm of the stylus should sit in the slot provided and the arm carrying the stylus tip will rest in the rubber support.

Fitting stylus type 4 Remove the old stylus by pulling downwards and replace by pushing the new one upwards until it clips into place.

Fitting stylus type 5 The old stylus is removed by pulling forwards and replaced by inserting the diamond or circular shaped tube of the new one into the corresponding hole in the cartridge.

Fitting stylus type 6 Similar to the previous fitting instructions except that this type of stylus will have a plastic rectangular protrusion which locates in a corresponding hole in the front of the cartridge.

Fitting stylus type 7 This type has a "tail" at the rear of the stylus body. On the underside of the cartridge is a slot and the tail of the stylus is located at the back end of this. Taking care not to touch the diamond tip, the front of the stylus body is now pushed upwards until it clicks securely into position.

My new stylus does not fit.

Assuming you ordered the stylus from the listings on our site, the probable explanation is that the cartridge in place is not the original as fitted by the turntable manufacturer. It may have been changed because the original failed, as an upgrade or by the retailer as an enhancement. Whatever the reason, if you return the unsuitable stylus together with your invoice and old stylus as a sample, we will exchange it (assuming no price difference) for the correct one.

How Do I Select and Fit a New Turntable Belt?

To remove the old belt, unplug your turntable and lift off the rubber mat from the platter. Rotate the platter until one of the inspection holes is above the motor drive shaft, carefully insert a pencil or something similar through the inspection hole and under the belt. Lift off the belt from the drive shaft and raise the platter from the spindle (the platter may be retained by a circlip which must be removed first).
If the motor drive shaft is no more than 25mm from the drive rim of the platter, you can take the diameter of the rim as the belt size required. Otherwise, to determine the correct belt size, measure the length of your old belt (twice x folded length if intact) in millimetres, or if not available, the path it travels. Now divide this figure by 3.3. This will give you the diameter of the belt needed which has the correct amount of tension when installed.

Now select from our range of belts one which is a close match to the size calculated.
To fit the new belt, place it around the drive drum on the underside of the platter, insert the pencil through an inspection hole and between drum and belt. Slide the platter onto the spindle making sure that the inspection hole is aligned with the motor drive shaft and lift the belt over this
